[Cor tries to grind out that kind of 'stupid' behavior from his Crownsguards, but even he can only do so much. Still, he'd be glad to know that Nyx doesn't bear that kind of blind animosity towards him over such a subject.]
Not always, no. But it sometimes help me unwind after a long day fulfilling my duties.
[Out comes the canola oil to prevent sticking, and then the teriyaki sauce to help fry the vegetables with...]
Unfortunately no. None of the Hunters got any requests asking me to go over there to help before then. And our grand road trip never took us close enough to that part of the world, either.
[ the marshal cooking to unwind is somehow a cute image, if he allows it to linger. instead, he keeps leaning on the counter, watching the practiced, if not fluid, movements as he cooks. ]
That doesn't surprise me. Even civilians in Galahd were expected to have a certain set of survival skills; anyone old enough would have been able to hunt if it came down to it. As you can imagine, our hunters were pretty tough.
Galahd herself, she was... wild. There were no havens; you only had yourself to rely on in the storm. But it meant that we all worked together, for better or worse. Glave Ostium isn't my brother by blood, or Altius, but they're my family, and that's as good as by blood in Galahd.
[Cor is very practiced and at ease in his own kitchen. It almost feels like any tension is melting off of his shoulders as he expertly fries the vegetables while chatting.]
Hn. Sounds almost like the ideal vacation to me. I came from a Hunter's family on my mother's side, so I was raised with the expectations that some basic survival was necessary despite growing up on the outskirts of Insomnia...
[He then smiles a little knowing smile at the last part Nyx had said, even as he adds in the fish.]
And I know that feeling - family thru fire-forged bonds. Regis and Clarus - His Majesty and his Shield...they're my brothers-in-arms...
You would consider having to avoid couerls a nice vacation.
[ and despite his tone, he's smiling - and clearly fond of the idea. galahd might have been as likely to kill you as embrace you, but he loved his home regardless. the thought of ruined villages, of ones still standing but only under imperial rule, makes his heart ache.
nyx leans forward a little, then, grinning suddenly. ]
That's right, you travelled with them when you were younger. Youngest Crownsguard ever, they say?
Makes for good training, at least. It's almost a shame I never got to see any of the Galahdian breeds; were they really as big as people claim?
[He's truly curious about that, though there's a slight teasing undertone as well. He snorts ruefully at being asked such a question, though he's grown used to being asked it over the years.]
Yeah, I was, though they didn't know how young I really was until Regis already made me part of his retinue. 13-year-olds don't normally go off to battle, so I had to lie to get myself in.
[He makes sure that nothing's burnt before he takes the pan off the hot burner and sets it onto a cold one before putting the lid over it. Then Cor starts pulling out plates for the both of them.]
[ nyx uses his hands to gesture an approximate size of their head, grin still in place. ]
I actually encountered one, on one of my hunting trips. Things are massive, and they're not like Lucian ones; they don't sit down and wait for you to come to them. Got tagged by it and frankly, I'm lucky I'm not dead.
[ when cor sighs, nyx offers a semi-apologetic grin. ]
Guess there's a reason they don't have pictures of you around the office then. Knowing the marshal's babyface probably wouldn't help intimidate people.
Hah! As if the Lucian ones are that patient if you encounter them on their own turfs...! But it's a good thing you survived to tell the tale.
[He looks mildly impressed with what the height of the head is, based on Nyx's gestures. Damn, that's even bigger than the ones lurking around the swamp ruins, last he recalls.
The mention of photographs makes him shake his head as he splits the stir-fried meal between the two plates.]
If you're really curious, check what photos I got on the walls. At least you can see what Clarus looked like with actual hair, too.
[Indeed, the nearest hanging photo shows Cor being awkwardly hugged one-armed by Clarus, with Regis leaning in for a photo-bomb. The Lord Shield looks very much like his son with actual hair on his head...and younger!Regis still look handsome even with his beard being smaller and more trimmed. The biggest difference, though was the teenage Cor - awkward, clean-shaven baby-faced, not as tall, and clearly in that 'gangling knees and elbows' stage of growth still.]
Not without some scars, but supposedly people dig those.
[ teasing, just a little, at cor. ]
The fur on my battle uniform is from one of them. Not the one that got me, but still, I think it's appropriate.
[ and apparently, he is really curious, because he cranes his neck to look at it. seeing the lord shield in an almost spitting image of his son - and wondering if that means poor gladio is doomed to a bald head - and a younger version of the king. but cor is really the treat here, and nyx can't help the small laugh as he turns back to cor, watching him divide up the food. ]
I think that katana of yours was probably as tall as you, sir.
